So it turns out I picked a horrible time to be out of town and away from the internet: on Thursday, Federal Judge Walker ruled that California's Proposition 8 was unconstitutional, citing that it does not comply with the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. Judge Walker wrote in his opinion that a ban on same-sex marriage has no rational basis and would not stand.
Obviously the ruling has been appealed, but this is a major leap forward for equal rights in this country. iBear applauds Judge Walker and looks forward to this ruling being upheld.
